When I read the first book one year ago, I was pleasantly surprised (my review) , so now I was really excited to read book two, but this story surpassed my every expectation! The Exquisite Torment of Loving Your Enemy has everything I want in a romance story; plot, romance and unique characters!
Aurienne and Osric continue trying to heal his deadly disease but they find out about the conspiracy behind the children’s plague. Their secret arrangements in mysterious places bring them closer, their banter is more amazing than ever and the pining is unbelievable.
I really liked the humor in book one which continues here also, but I never expected the heat! This is how slow burn is done!!! Osric is a man tormented by love and Aurienne despite her stand off personality, opens up about her feelings and decides to heal and give him a chance.
Sometimes we get overwhelmed by the political intrigues in books, but the author wrote an interesting back story where the lines are blurred between good and bad. I would definitely read more stories set in this world.
I like trying new authors and Brigitte Knightley made me a fan! It is difficult to love book two more than the first one, but she showed us how a perfect duet is made!
