The Flatshare is a romantic book by debut author Beth O’Leary and I can admit that I had no idea about it until I saw it across social media. Everyone was raving about it so I thought why not give it a chance?!
I am glad I read this book because it was unique with a chic lit vibe but also touching more serious subjects like emotional abuse and human relationships.
Tiffy and Leon are not good financially so they decide to share a flat. Tiffy works in the mornings and Leon at nights so they share a home and a bed but they have never met.
Soon they start interacting with little adorable notes and they create a beautiful bond that is so original.
When I started this book I thought I would read a romantic comedy but this story talks about realistic and serious problems. It is not heavy but it’s honest and realistic.
The heroine is quirky but she is not a caricature. She faces an ex who is abusive but she doesn’t give up. She finds herself with the help of her amazing friends and of course with Leon.
Leon is such a different hero than the usual. He is an introvert, a little bit insecure and shy but I loved his patience and sweetness.
The book is interesting and vibrant and it has the distinctive British humor. Sometimes I had to google some words and the writing is so different especially in Leon’s POV. You will have to get used to it because it gives you a strange feeling.
The Flatshare is perfect for summer as it is light without missing emotional depth and has characters you will get to love! I will definitely try this author again!
