Stephanie Garber is a new to me author so I went truly blindly into these stories. I had not read a review, I had no idea about her writing style or that these were connected to her previous series. I was just intrigued by the blurb of book one and I ended up reading them all together. That said, this series was like a fairytale, a fantasy story with love, adventure and mystery.
Evangeline is our heroine and all she ever wants is her happily ever after. When her first love abandons her without word and goes to marry her stepsister, she bargains with the wicked Prince of Hearts and then their love journey begins.
I won’t say more about what happens in their story but these books are full of ups and downs, twists and turns and surprises and most of all, romantic love.
What I loved about these books are that the characters are multidimensional. No one is just good or bad. They all have their reasons to act like that and you cannot truly hate anyone. The only thing for sure is you are going to love Jacks, the prince of Hearts. He is a morally grey character with dry humor, an irresistible smirk and alpha vibes like no other. Evangeline on the other hand is a curious girl, strong when needed and sometimes naïve which I didn’t hate because she acts her age, mistakes and all.
The secondary characters are amazing and I would love to see the love story between their best friends.
I have to admit that book 2 was my favorite of the series as book 1 was the introduction and book 3 needed more scenes between the couple for me. Jacks was a little on the background and I am sure we all want more of him and Eva. Also, there were some questions left unanswered but maybe the author will write more of these characters?! I truly hope…
