The Hurricane by R.J. Prescott
Emily McCarthy is living in fear of a dark and dangerous past. A gifted mathematician, she is little more than a hollow, broken shell, trying desperately to make ends meet long enough to finish her degree.
Through an unlikely friendship with the aging, cantankerous owner of an old boxing gym, Em is thrown into the path of the most dangerous man that she has ever met.
Cormac “the Hurricane” O’Connell is cut, tattooed and dangerous. He is a lethal weapon with no safety and everyone is waiting for the mis-fire. He’s never been knocked out before, but when he meet Em he falls, HARD. Unlike any other girl he’s ever met, she doesn’t want anything from him, but just being around her makes him want to be a better person.
They are polar opposites who were never meant to find each other, but some things are just worth the fight.

Love Words from Con to Em
Dear Sunshine
I went looking for a Valentine’s card for you today, and found myself losing my shit (no surprise there then!) Cause every card I picked up, with fuckin teddy bears and flowers and shit on the front, didn’t even come close to explaining the way I feel about you. How can I have just one day to tell you how I feel, when I feel this way every day?
After I gave up on cards, I looked for presents, but that didn’t work either. Because you don’t care about materialistic shit. Sure, we’ve got the money now that I could buy you jewellery, and take you out for an expensive dinner tonight. You’d smile and say nice things, but that just tells you what I can buy you, not what you mean to me.
Eventually, I stopped and thought about how I first met you. It wasn’t how you think either. I saw you one morning, just before work, giving hot coffee to a homeless guy. So instead of buying you expensive crap, I spent the day with Henry. He was begging outside one the shops I passed. After we went for lunch, I helped him get cleaned up and bought him some new clothes. Turns out he had some problems with PTSD after he left the army, and ended up on the streets. After that I took him to see Father Pat who thinks he might have a lead on a job. Nothing fancy, but you think he’d told Henry it was Christmas.
It might not be the most romantic thing anyone’s ever done on Valentine’s Day, but it’s the one thing I could do today to show you that you’ve changed me. Every single day, you make me want to be a better man. You make my whole fucking world better, just by being in it.
I’m not a smart guy, but I guess you knew that when you married me. Between the two of us, you’re the brains of our operation, but I am smart enough to know that love ain’t a strong enough word to tell you how I feel. You are my whole fuckin world, and you will be till the day I day. And I ain’t waiting on Valentine’s Day to show you that. Each and every day I’m gonna make sure you feel my love, and when my time on this rock is done, my last words are gonna be ‘thank you,’ to whatever power decided that I was lucky enough to get to call you mine.
So tonight, I’m going to give you sunflowers, and cook you an amazing meal, surrounded by candles and tea lights, like the night we got engaged, and then for desert I’m gonna use my mouth to show you all the ways I can appreciate you without using words. Underwear is permitted but highly discouraged, unless it’s sexy-as-fuck, in which case taking it off can be part of desert.
Happy Valentine’s Day baby. I love you. Always have, always will,

About the author
R.J Prescott is born in Cardiff, South Wales although she left to study law at the University of Bristol, England. Four weeks before graduation she fell in love, and stayed. Ten years later she convinced my crazy, wonderful fire fighter husband to move back to Cardiff with her where they live with they two equally crazy sons. Juggling work, writing and family doesn’t leave a lot of time, but curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate for family movie night is definitely the best part of her week. “The Hurricane” is her debut New Adult Novel. http://rjprescott.com/
