Skylar used to be a pop-rock star until she fled from her painful past and her nightmares. She is now living on the streets barely surviving with her music. No one knows her but the attention of a music executive will change her life once again.
Killian works at one of the most successful record labels in Scotland and he wants to be on top. When he finds a homeless girl busking he knows she has all to takes to make another great success. So he gives her a choice; getting her out of the streets for her talent to be heard.
Skylar and Killian’s relationship is explosive. They are both a little flawed, a little broken but decisive. They don’t back down from banter and their spirits fight but their hearts unite. Skylar might not want to be on the spotlight again, something that Killian chases for her but the music at its core brings them closer. They just both have to decide if love is stronger than everything else.
These characters are not perfect and they make mistakes but I love how realistic they are. They don’t pretend to be on a pedestal that nothing can touch them. On the contrary, sometimes they are both a little selfish, a lot of vulnerable and definitely true to themselves. The book would be ideal for me if it had Killian’s POV sometimes.
This author’s writing is on spot and as it is based on music it’s lyrical. I admire her talent to write songs and I could easily imagine them on the radio or on stage.
The secondary characters are interesting and I am happy to say that Killian’s sister is going to get her own story and I cannot wait because she is a ray of sunshine in this book. I know one of those characters is difficult to like but as I am addicted to lost, bad boys, I would love to read the story about Skylar’s ex- band mate.
Samantha Young composed a beautiful, complex song full of light and darkness, heartbreak and love and you will want to hear every note until the end!
