Brittainy C. Cherry never disappoints. This might sound repetitive in my reviews of her books but this author is one of the few that touches deeply my heart. This story revolves about music being important to our existence but let me tell you that Brittainy is the best songwriter with words that break and heal and she needs to continue writing. She pours her soul into the pages that will stay with you as a melody stuck into your head .
Jasmine and Elliott meet at the age of sixteen when they both need a friend to lean on. They are completely opposites but their core is the same. They feel lonely with music their only escape. The notes unite them and an innocent but deep love is born.
They both have their own crosses to bear and when they meet again after six years , they have to hear that their heartbeats still play the same . Their struggles are so real and painful that will leave you crying but their love is so important that you know that they will make it through.
Elliott is such a broken man but with a heart so strong. He is kind, resilient and although he loses his way, he never stops being vulnerable and caring. He just needs someone to pull him from his darkness. Jasmine is a girl loyal and smart. You can see her need to be loved and you will sympathize with her. She is optimistic and compassionate.
Their relationship is sweet and you see that they are soulmates. Despite their being the main couple, every side character is written so carefully. It’s more than a love story. This book is about family, friendship and it shows you that sometimes people come to your life to be there for you in happiness and in sadness.
The writing is flawless with a great pace. I have underlined so many passages and her words are like arrows to your insides. She is like showing her heart and in the same times she steals your own.
“Behind the Bars” is a book that needs to be read. It’s a story to be shared like a song in the radio. Let its rhythm travel you and you will be consumed. I have read hundreds of books and this one just became one of favorites, so that says something. I cannot recommend it enough…
