I never would have guessed that I would spend my Valentine’s day crying but Emma Scott once again wrote a story touching that had me in tears. In Harmony is a young adult/ new adult book that speaks about sensitive matters but the essence of this story is love.
Willow was a rich, entitled girl until an unthinkable thing happened and she lost herself. When her family moves into a new little town, she has the chance to breathe again. Auditioning for a Shakespearean play is something foreign for her but she sees it as an outlet for her feelings, so she takes the jump.
Isaac lives at the wrong side of the town. He is considered trailer trash, a criminal, an aggressive boy. He might not be liked by the other students but no one can ignore his talent in acting. All his painful experiences become a raw performing and that is his only chance to escape this life.
Willow is enamored by the silent boy and Isaac finds a reason to want to stay. Their relationship is slow burning but there is this trust between them that runs deep and their connection though not physical is huge.
I loved how much these two changed throughout the book. Willow finds her strength, her voice and Isaac finds someone to open up, someone who makes him smile.
The secondary characters are amazing and their true friends support them like family.
The writing is beautiful and it travels you. I have to say that because English is my second language and I haven’t studied Shakespeare , sometimes I had to try a little harder to understand the phrases but I didn’t feel overwhelmed. I liked that they were parallelisms to the story and the play and sometimes the classical words and actions were a means to express their emotions.
In Harmony is a story about a young couple that finds hope and light in the middle of the darkness. They find love that helps them heal and the sweet epilogue shows is so satisfying! Another great read by this author…
