There is something magical in historical romance novels and King of South set in the 1910s has the special touch of its era. Calia Read returns with our favorite family and she writes a book sweet, intense and purely romantic.
Livingston is back from the Great War and he feels lost and broken. Alcohol is his only friend and he does not have time for his best friend’s sister, Rainey.
Rainey has lost her brother in the war and now her family’s legacy is in danger. She has to find a husband quickly but she is in the hands of Livingston.
They have always been friends but their feelings slowly turn into something more. Livingston cannot commit to a relationship as he is haunted by the nightmares of his past but he cannot resist the fierce girl.
I loved Livingston in the Surviving series but in this book we see another aspect of his soul which is deeply hurt. You will sympathize with him because he has lived the worst part of the humanity, being in a war. Rainey is a breath of fresh air; a woman modern for the times. She is feisty, a tomboy, a woman who chases what she wants.
Although, I liked their banter, their witty attitude and all the light back and forth between them, their quiet bond won me over. Livingston is a tortured man and Rainey heals him with her love. Also, not to forget the dirty scenes between them. They are hot! Don’t skip on translating the french of our hero because it is everything you need..
I was glad to see that our lovely characters from the Surviving series are a great part of this book and let me tell you the end about Nat, our hero’s sister, promises a next book combustible!!!
Dive into this majestic world and fall in love with this broken couple and its unforgettable story!
