Can a debut author that won in the best romance category in goodreads do it again? Elena Armas surely can! The American Roommate Experiment is a friends to lovers romance book and it is such a cute love story!
Rosie’s life is not going so well. She quit her job to work as a romance author and she has a writer’s block and now her apartment is in crumbles. At least her best friend is away on her honeymoon, so she can stay in hers for a few days. Problem solved, right?
Lucas’ life has turned upside down after a major surgery. His career as a surfer is over and he has no idea what to do with himself. His cousin has given him her keys to her New York apartment so maybe he can find new goals. What he doesn’t expect is to find a pretty girl in his new home.
These two agree to be roommates as also to help each other. Lucas will have some company and Rosie will have a “fake” dating partner for her to overcome her troubles with writing.
Soon their friendship turns into much more but they both have to take a leap of faith for their happily ever after!
Rosie is a sweetheart and I think the author put so much of herself in this character. It feels like she is telling her own story. Her struggles and feelings seem so realistic. Lucas is such a loveable hero. He is a true romantic. This book is a slow burn romance so prepare for patience, my friends!
Elena’s writing is easygoing and you can read this book in one go. I think though that she put so many tropes and some are a little cliche. It is like she tried too hard sometimes.
The American Roommate Experiment is a light, entertaining love story and if you liked her first book, I am sure you are going to want to read this too!
