Don’t let this hot cover fool you! The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is a really emotional enemies to lovers story that will touch your heart! It’s a little heartbreaking, a little forbidden but so lovely!
Drew is a famous singer that needs a break. When her ex invites her to Hawaii for another chance, she is in. The problem is he is late to show up and there is his problematic family and his stiff brother that hates her.
Joshua is a doctor in Somalia. His mother is sick, his father is a terrible human being, his brother is irresponsible and his ex irritatingly beautiful.
The truth though is that these two connect in a deeper level and there is attraction that cannot be contained. When they spend time together, they realize that their cold facade and their animosity is because they both hide their real characters.
As you know I hate love triangles but this did not feel like one. Drew and her ex have broken up and there is nothing between them. It was a superficial affair.
Drew is a character broken. She has flaws, she has no confidence but she has a backbone when she talks to Joshua. Joshua is a gruff character but I loved his protectiveness. Sometimes he is a little rude but you know that he cares about her. My heart broke sometimes with their need for love. Their bond is raw and meaningful.
I love that this is a slow burn romance. Hawaii with its wild places brought them really together. Their closed proximity pushed their love story even more and it was delightful. I would have liked to see more of them as a couple when they leave from their vacation but their scenes together were endearing.
Elizabeth O’Roark is an author for me with a great writing style and her books have become must reads! I cannot wait for her next “Devil”, the magnetic but hard lawyer, Ben!
