Jay Crownover might write different tropes but there is one thing in common; all her stories are breathtaking, emotional and truly exceptional! Shelter is a book unique, heartbreaking and unpredictable. Prepare to be taken on a wild ride full of feelings and adventure!
If there is something I truly admire about this author is that she writes characters flawed, so raw and real that you can connect to. Forget the perfect men and the cute heroines because Jay gives you broken people you will come to love, mistakes and all.
If you have read Retreat, book 1, you know that Sutton and Emrys have shared a painful experience that broke their souls but instead of its uniting them, they are drowning in guilt and regret. Sutton cannot face the disappointment of letting her down and Emrys cannot find her place in life. Now Emrys is back to find forgiveness but she discovers a man addicted to alcohol and painkillers.
Sutton is a man that is used to disappoint the women of his life. His mother ran away, his ex-wife makes his life impossible, he blames himself for everything that happened to Emrys and now he is making his biggest mistake. He has made his daughter miserable.
When Emrys is back he realizes that he can breathe and can feel normal again. She glues his broken pieces and she accepts him as he is. Emrys feels alive and doesn’t have the urge to run away from her problems. She wants to stay with Sutton and help him and help herself.
There is acceptance, forgiveness and they both heal with their love. They can be perfectly imperfect together and feel whole. I admire Emrys’ strength and although she feels confused, she never stops supporting Sutton. Sutton on the other hand is one of the most broken heroes I have seen but you will get to love him because all his actions, good or bad, will melt you. He makes mistakes but he owns them and when the man shows his love, he is so romantic. He is loyal and he gives his damaged heart to her, trusting her completely.
Jay Crownover started my year brilliantly and this story will steal every piece of your heart. This book has everything and I cannot wait to fall in love with the youngest brother, Lane, in Escape, book three of this exciting series!
