Skies Over Caledonia by Samantha Young has one of my favorite tropes, marriage of convenience, so I had a feeling that I would like it but this book became my favorite of the series!
Allegra is the daughter of a famous director and a supermodel but her life has not been easy. After psychological traumas, abuse and drugs, she needs some peace and quiet and Scotland is the perfect place for her. Her sister, her only comfort is there, but as an American, she cannot stay.
Jared has had a rough upbringing but after his grandfather saved him, he has changed. After his grandpa’s death, he has inherited his farm but now he is on the verge of losing it all.
Allegra has the perfect solution for both of them, an arranged marriage; he will get some of her inheritance and she will get the green card.
I loved how this story progressed. There is no fast pacing but a realistic slow burn for these two strangers that become first friends and then lovers. I really liked that there is no comfort between them at first but they tiptoe around each other until they both open up. There is of course attraction but they just don’t fall on bed. They get to trust each other and their relationship progresses naturally.
I really liked Allegra’s honesty and vulnerability and Jared’s protectiveness and realness.
Also, I say this with a smile on my face, but although we fight everyday for women’s rights, there is something in our DNA that makes us melt when we hear the hero saying with possessiveness “my wife”. I felt really giddy when Jared said it so meaningfully.
Skies Over Caledonia is such a warm love story set in the idyllic Scotland and I cannot wait to get back to this magical place and world!
