I have to tell you a little secret… I usually read positive but especially negative reviews before picking a new author to me. When I saw The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon in social media, I fell in love with the cover and I went in blindly and I am so glad. I had no idea it had so many negative reviews which would make me avoid it, so I am telling you if you are fan of fantasy and enemies to lovers, don’t read them and go for it because this is a great story! Not to forget… this book started as a Star Wars fanfiction, so if you are all about Reylo, then even better!
I suppose that the problem everyone had was that the story is a little slow in the beginning and it is focused on the war aspect and the politics. Fear not because afterwards, the romance between the couple is spot on!
Talasyn is an orphan with no family and all she knows is fighting for her life and freedom against the Night Emperor, who has conquered and destroyed their world. Alaric is the emperor’s only son and he is forced to be a warrior. When these two clash, there is war between light and darkness but they have to unite against a bigger threat.
This story is a true enemies to lovers. Often this trope is about two people that behave like enemies but secretly they like each other. This is not the case… These two are truly against each other and the romance is slow burn. There is attraction but the things that separate them are many to overcome.
Although, Talasyn has light magic and Alaric dark, I found fascinating that their characters were the opposite. Talasyn is a resilient girl, a little harsh and rough at times and fierce. Alaric is a boy lonely that is forced to be a puppet to his father. He hides a sensitive side that I loved and he is the first to fall.
Sometimes, I was a little lost to the details of the political war, but the romance story won me over.
This book finishes with a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to see what these two awaits!
